Bayside Community Ambulance Corps also known as Bayside Volunteer Ambulance Corps to the community of Bayside was incorporated in September of 1955. People from the Community and business owners opened the corps to provide ambulance and training services to the community. BVAC lent out hospital beds, walkers, crutches, commodes and iron lungs to the people of Bayside back in 1955. With our used 1948 Cadillac Bayside Volunteer Ambulance Corps was ready to go!
BVAC was located at the 111th Precent on 41st Avenue where the municipal parking lot is located today. Right next door to the property was the location of the Police Emergency Squad on a piece of land 40 x 100. BVAC was interested in purchasing the property to setup a permanent headquarters for the price of $4,500.00. Mr. Frank Realmuto Treasurer, Mr. Walter Dayton acting as our broker and Mr. Edmund Wiloski as counsel were in negotiation for this property.
It never did happen and the property on 42nd Ave was later purchased for the permanent location for Bayside Volunteer Ambulance Corps for over 40 years.
In 1958 The community of Little Neck-Douglaston also wanted to provide the community with a volunteer ambulance corps. Bayside Volunteers helped with this dream by donating their 1952 Cadillac to the Little Neck-Douglaston Lions Club.
Over the years 600+ people have given their time for free to support the community of Bayside. Through snow storms, blackouts, heatwaves and 911 we were here for our community to give our support and aid.
