This course is designed for healthcare professionals, current CPR providers, EMS personnel, nurses, allied health staff, experienced rescuers, and others who want to become certified to teach AHA BLS, CPR, and AED courses.
Students must have a current AHA provider card in the discipline being taught and must complete the required online Instructor Essentials course before attending class. Proof of online completion should be brought to class.
The course covers instructor roles and responsibilities, how to teach AHA BLS content using approved materials and methods, adult learning principles, classroom teaching strategies, course logistics, hands-on skills instruction, student evaluation, and preparation for instructor monitoring.
Instructor candidates are trained to teach high-quality CPR for adults, children, and infants, early AED use, team-based BLS response skills, relief of choking, and core BLS concepts for healthcare and professional rescuers.
After successful completion of the required course steps, instructor candidates move forward in the AHA instructor process and may become eligible for instructor alignment and monitoring requirements, as applicable.
