Bayside Volunteer Ambulance Corps® has been at the heart of our community since 1955, answering the call whenever help was needed. As we prepare to mark our 70th anniversary this year, we’re reflecting on seven decades of service, compassion, and dedication and we want to bring a piece of our past back to life.
From our earliest days, each ambulance we put into service represented more than just a vehicle; it was a symbol of hope and rapid response. In 1958, we added the Cadillac Superior Ambulance to our fleet, a sleek, reliable rig that served our volunteers and patients admirably. Today, after nearly sixty years, these classic ambulances have become rare treasures. While models predating 1958 are almost impossible to locate, the 1958 Superior remains just within reach of discovery.
Why a 1958 Cadillac Superior Ambulance?
Historical Significance: It was one of our first purpose-built ambulances, custom-designed for patient care and crew safety.
Iconic Design: With its distinctive fins and polished chrome, the Cadillac Superior captured the optimism of the 1950s and the spirit of innovation in emergency medical services.
Community Connection: Restoring and displaying this ambulance at our 70th anniversary celebration will allow long-time residents to relive fond memories and newer generations to appreciate the roots of modern EMS.
We need your help. If you, your family, or someone you know has ever owned or even spotted a 1958 Cadillac Superior Ambulance, please get in touch. No lead is too small. Whether it’s tucked away in a private collection, displayed at a museum, or simply remembered in old photographs and stories, every piece of information brings us one step closer to reclaiming this cornerstone of our history.
