- Types of respirators: The course covers different types of respirators, including filtering facepiece respirators (N95, P100), half-face and full-face respirators, powered air-purifying respirators (PAPRs), and supplied-air respirators (SARs).
- Selection and fit testing: Participants understand the importance of selecting the right respirator for specific hazards and receive training on how to properly conduct fit testing to ensure a proper seal and adequate protection.
- Proper use and maintenance: Workers are trained on how to correctly don, doff, and use respirators, as well as how to inspect, clean, sanitize, and store them to maintain their effectiveness.
- Respiratory protection program: The course outlines the elements of a comprehensive respiratory protection program, including written procedures, medical evaluations, training requirements, and recordkeeping.
- Regulations and standards: Participants gain an understanding of relevant OSHA regulations (e.g., 29 CFR 1910.134) and industry standards governing respiratory protection in the workplace.
