TECC – Tactical Emergency Casualty Care for Civilians, Responders & High-Risk Environments

In today’s world, emergencies can unfold anywhere—public spaces, workplaces, schools, places of worship, and community events. Trauma from violence, accidents, and life-threatening injuries requires fast, decisive action long before emergency responders can reach the scene. Tactical Emergency Casualty Care (TECC) equips everyday citizens, security teams, teachers, law enforcement, and first responders with the skills to save lives when seconds matter.

BVAC is proud to offer TECC training based on the guidelines of the Committee for Tactical Emergency Casualty Care, bringing battlefield-proven medical techniques to civilian settings in a safe, accessible way.

What TECC Is — and Why It Matters

TECC teaches essential life-saving interventions for high-stress, high-risk environments. Unlike standard first aid, TECC emphasizes care under fire, rapid evacuation, and life-threatening bleeding control.

TECC focuses on the three preventable causes of trauma death:
✔ Severe bleeding
✔ Airway obstruction
✔ Respiratory failure

When bystanders and responders know what to do, preventable deaths drop significantly.

Who Needs TECC Training?

TECC is recommended for:

• Security teams
• Law enforcement & campus safety
• Teachers & school staff
• Houses of worship
• Corporate employees & workplace safety teams
• EMS & fire personnel
• Community volunteers
• Prepared civilians
• Event staff & venue personnel

Anyone who may encounter violence, accidents, or crowds can benefit from TECC training.

What You Learn in TECC

TECC is hands-on, realistic, and scenario-based. Students learn:

1. Hemorrhage Control

✔ Tourniquet application
✔ Wound packing
✔ Pressure dressings
✔ Junctional bleeding management

2. Airway & Breathing Management

✔ Airway positioning
✔ Recognizing breathing emergencies
✔ Chest injury considerations

3. Care Under Threat

✔ Maintaining personal safety
✔ Moving casualties to cover
✔ Responding under stress

4. Casualty Evacuation

✔ Rapid drag and carry techniques
✔ Prioritizing casualties in chaotic scenes
✔ Integration with EMS and law enforcement

Why TECC Skills Are Essential

Trauma unfolds rapidly. A victim can bleed to death in 3–5 minutes.
TECC empowers individuals to:

✔ Stay calm
✔ Identify life-threatening injuries
✔ Take immediate, life-saving action
✔ Improve survival before EMS arrives

These skills bridge the gap between incident and professional response.

TECC vs. Standard First Aid

First Aid:
• Focuses on low-risk environments
• Teaches medical basics at a steady pace

TECC:
• Designed for chaotic or high-risk situations
• Emphasizes rapid bleeding control
• Builds decision-making skills under pressure
• Prepares responders for tactical or violent incidents

Both are valuable, but TECC fills a critical gap in modern emergency preparedness.

How TECC Training Helps Companies & Organizations

TECC-trained staff strengthen organizational safety and reduce liability exposure.

Benefits include:
✔ Enhanced workplace emergency readiness
✔ Lower risk of severe injury or death
✔ Stronger safety culture
✔ Potential insurance reductions due to certified training
✔ Increased confidence among employees and security teams

Businesses that invest in TECC are better prepared for emergencies that traditional first-aid programs do not fully address.

When to Call 911

Call immediately if:

• A person is unresponsive
• Severe bleeding cannot be controlled
• There are penetrating injuries
• A traumatic event occurs
• An unsafe situation continues

Provide care only when it is safe to do so and follow TECC principles.
